Scotland-born Adam Montgomery, who celebrates his 23rd birthday on 18 July 2025, has carved his footballing career primarily as a left-back. Standing at 1.73 metres (approximately 5ft 8in) and maintaining a 60kg (roughly 9st 6lb) physique, Montgomery turned heads in his green-and-white jersey bearing the number 37.
Montgomery's Celtic journey began in July 2009 amidst the bustling Premiership in Scotland. As a trainee, he entered with raw potential and a need for nurturing. His initiation to the first team arrived in the 2020-2021 season, where he had two opportunities to demonstrate his ability in league matches. His contribution increased slightly in the 2021-2022 season with eight league appearances, though he is yet to make his mark in the ongoing 2025-2026 season.
In a bid to gain playing time and experience, Montgomery embarked on a series of loans. His first pit stop was Aberdeen in January 2022, where he chalked up seven league appearances in that season. The following June, he returned to Celtic only to be loaned out again in July, this time to St Johnstone in the Championship. His time with St Johnstone proved more fruitful with 28 league match appearances.
Upon his return to Celtic in June 2023, Montgomery had his suitcase ready for yet another loan spell. He crossed Scottish borders to feature for Fleetwood Town in England's League Two in July 2023, only to return to Scotland the following January. This return, however, was short-lived, as Montgomery went on loan to Motherwell in the Premiership in the same month.
After a brief stay with Motherwell, Montgomery was back at Celtic in February 2024. It was nearly a game of musical chairs for him as he found himself featuring for Queen's Park in the Championship the following year. Enjoying a decent run with 12 first team appearances and a goal, Montgomery was recalled by Celtic in June 2025.
His most recent loan spell started in July 2025 with his move to Livingston in the Premiership, where he has made eight appearances in the ongoing 2025-2026 season. As of now, he's back at Celtic with his first team appearances still to kick off for the season.
In summary, Montgomery's Celtic journey has been a rollercoaster ride involving several loan stints. Time will tell if he manages to break into Celtic's starting eleven consistently or if another loan move is on the cards.
