Alistair Johnston, born in Vancouver on 8 October 1998 (age 27), is a Canadian right-back who remains part of the current Celtic side. He wears the No 2 shirt and has become a steady presence rather than a noisy one, which is no bad thing in that position.
Johnston came to Celtic from CF Montreal in January 2023 for around £3m. His most productive league season had come the year before in Canada, when he scored four goals in 33 appearances for Montreal, but Celtic signed him primarily for reliability, energy and defensive assurance on the right side.
His time in Glasgow has already brought a fair amount of silverware. Johnston has won three Premiership titles, two League Cups and two Scottish Cups with Celtic, adding substance to a spell that began with him settling quickly into a side with little room for passengers.
In 2025–26, he has made seven league appearances without scoring, along with one Scottish Cup appearance and one in the Europa League, giving him nine Celtic appearances across all competitions for the season. He has also remained involved with Canada, featuring twice in World Cup matches and three times in the Gold Cup.
His current market value is around £7m, according to Transfermarkt. Johnston’s career has moved from Vancouver roots to CF Montreal and then to Celtic, where he has become an established international full-back with medals already banked and a useful role still to play.
