Altay Bayındır, born on 14 April 1998 (age 28), is a Turkish goalkeeper with Celta Vigo, where he wears the number one shirt. At 6ft 6in (1.98m), he is an imposing presence, which is not a bad starting point for a keeper.
His early senior football included Ankaragucu, where the 2018-19 league season gave him 17 appearances and helped move him on to a much bigger stage. The spell that has shaped his career, though, is Fenerbahce. Across five seasons there, Bayındır made 116 league appearances and became firmly associated with one of Turkey’s biggest clubs.
He is now with Celta Vigo, continuing his career outside Turkey after those years in Istanbul. He has also been involved internationally, making one appearance for Turkey in European World Cup qualifying this season.
Bayındır’s career is still best understood through his Fenerbahce years: a long, substantial run as first-choice goalkeeper before moving on to a new setting in Spain.
