Arne Engels, born on 8 September 2003 (age 22), is a Belgian centre midfielder whose senior career has quickly become tied to Celtic. He joined from Augsburg in August 2024 for around £11m, a sizeable fee by Celtic standards and not one that allowed much hiding space.
His first season in Glasgow gave the move a solid base. Engels made 34 league appearances in 2024–2025 and scored nine goals, his most productive league campaign to date. He also won the Premiership and League Cup that season, while Celtic finished runners-up in the Scottish Cup.
He remained a regular part of the side in 2025–2026, adding another Premiership title. In the league he made 30 appearances and scored five goals, while also contributing in the Scottish Cup and Europa League. Across the season he reached 40 Celtic appearances in all competitions, with seven goals.
In league terms, Engels has now made 64 appearances for Celtic and scored 14 goals across three seasons. His current market value is around £17m, according to Transfermarkt. Still only 22, he is no longer just a new signing being assessed, but a continuing first-team presence in a midfield that asks plenty of him.
