Arne Engels is a Belgian central midfielder, born on 8 September 2003 (age 23), who joined Celtic from Augsburg in August 2024 for around £11m. It was a sizeable fee by Scottish standards, and he arrived with the profile of a player expected to grow into the side rather than merely fill a shirt.
His first season at Celtic was his most productive in league terms, with nine goals in 34 appearances in 2024-25. He was part of a side that won the Premiership and League Cup that season, and he added another Premiership title in 2025-26. Celtic also finished as runners-up in both the League Cup and Scottish Cup during his time at the club.
Engels left Celtic for West Ham United in August 2026 in a deal worth around £22m. In 2026-27, he made two league appearances for Celtic and 13 league appearances on loan at West Ham United, scoring once, a slightly untidy career passage that still kept him connected to both clubs.
He remains part of the current Celtic side, with his market value put at around £17m by Transfermarkt. His career so far has moved quickly: Augsburg to Celtic, a major sale to England, and then a continuing Celtic thread rather than a clean break.
