Auston Trusty, born on 12 August 1998 (age 27), is an American central defender at Celtic. A commanding 6ft 3in (1.91m), he gives the back line an obvious physical presence without needing the part oversold.
His most productive league season came with Birmingham City in 2022-23, when he scored four goals in 44 appearances. That spell gave a clearer view of him as more than just a defender built for contact, before his career moved on through Sheffield United.
Celtic signed Trusty from Sheffield United in August 2024 for around £6m. He was part of the squad that won the Premiership and League Cup in 2024-25, a useful first season’s return for a player arriving from English football into a side where defensive lapses are rarely treated with much patience.
In 2025-26, Trusty has remained a regular first-team presence. He has made 23 league appearances, along with three in the League Cup, three in the Scottish Cup, one in Champions League qualifying and seven in the Europa League, where he has scored twice. His form this season has been strong and consistent, and his current market value is around £5m according to Transfermarkt.
Trusty’s Celtic career is still being written, but the shape is clear enough for now: a tall, left-sided centre-back signed from Sheffield United, already with domestic honours, and still involved regularly in the current side.
