Ben Godfrey, born on 15 January 1998 (age 28), is an English central defender now with Rangers, where he wears the number four shirt. His current market value is around £4.5m, according to Transfermarkt.
Godfrey’s development took proper shape after his move to Norwich City, with a loan spell at Shrewsbury Town giving him the regular senior football young defenders tend to need more than they need slogans. He returned to Norwich better prepared for Championship football, and his 2018-19 season was his most productive in the league: 31 appearances and four goals.
That Norwich spell established him as a serious first-team defender rather than just another prospect with good reviews. He later moved on through the English and European game before arriving at Rangers, where his start has been measured rather than spectacular.
In 2026-27, Godfrey has made six league appearances for Rangers, along with one League Cup appearance. Across all competitions for the club, he has played seven times and is still looking for his first goal there.
His career so far has run from development football into regular senior spells, with Norwich the key platform and Rangers his current stop. He remains an established professional centre-back with enough experience to know exactly what Scottish football will ask of him.
