Benjamin Nygren

Benjamin Nygren was a central attacking presence for Celtic in 2025-26, making 38 Premiership appearances, starting 29 and scoring 16 goals. For a central attacking midfielder, that return pointed to a high-usage role rather than a supporting one, even as Celtic finished second. He also scored in the Scottish Cup and added four goals in the Europa League, extending his value beyond league matches.

Nygren averaged a 7.37 rating across the season, with a high of 9.37 and a low of 6.43. That range suggested a strong baseline with clear match-winning peaks, rather than a player whose contribution depended only on goals.

Nygren’s career path moved from IFK Gothenburg to Genk, included a loan at Heerenveen, then a rebuilding spell at FC Nordsjaelland before his move to Celtic. His scoring profile rose sharply before arriving in Glasgow, from one goal in 2021-22 to three, six and then 15 across the next three seasons, followed by 16 Premiership goals in his first Celtic league season.

Nygren’s transfers showed an early high-value move, a reset and then renewed upward movement. Genk paid €3.4m to sign him from IFK Gothenburg in 2019, but he later moved through a Heerenveen loan before joining FC Nordsjaelland for €540k in 2022. Celtic’s €1.5m deal in 2025 came after his production had accelerated, with his market value later listed at €14.00m.
