Benjamin Nygren, born on 8 July 2001 (age 24), is a Swedish central attacking midfielder who joined Celtic from FC Nordsjaelland in July 2025 for around £1.5m. He took the number 8 shirt and was quickly more than a squad filler, becoming a regular first-team presence through the 2025-26 season.

That first Celtic campaign has been his most productive league season, with 16 goals in 38 Premiership appearances. Across all competitions he has made 53 appearances and scored 21 goals, adding one goal in five Scottish Cup matches and four in 10 Europa League games. Celtic also won the Premiership in 2025-26, giving Nygren his first league title at the club.

His form has kept him in Sweden’s plans as well, with one World Cup appearance and five European qualifying appearances this season, including one goal. His market value is around £12m, according to Transfermarkt.

Nygren’s Celtic career is still at an early stage, but his first season in Glasgow has been substantial: regular football, consistent goal output, European involvement and a league title.

Benjamin Nygren was a central attacking presence for Celtic in 2025-26, making 38 Premiership appearances, starting 29 and scoring 16 goals. For a central attacking midfielder, that return pointed to a high-usage role rather than a supporting one, even as Celtic finished second. He also scored in the Scottish Cup and added four goals in the Europa League, extending his value beyond league matches.

Nygren’s transfers showed an early high-value move, a reset and then renewed upward movement. Genk paid €3.4m to sign him from IFK Gothenburg in 2019, but he later moved through a Heerenveen loan before joining FC Nordsjaelland for €540k in 2022. Celtic’s €1.5m deal in 2025 came after his production had accelerated, with his market value later listed at €14.00m.
