Cameron Carter-Vickers was born in Southend-on-Sea, England, on 31 December 1997 (age 28), and is a USA central defender now wearing number 20 for Celtic. He came through Tottenham Hotspur’s system, with early loan moves giving him the senior football a young centre-half needs if he is to become something more than a promising name on a squad list.
Celtic took him from Tottenham in August 2021, and the fit was quickly obvious. His first league season in Glasgow remains his most productive in front of goal, with four goals in 33 appearances in 2021-22, but his value has never really been about that. He brought pace, strength, recovery defending and a welcome lack of fuss to a back line that needed all of it.
Since then, Carter-Vickers has become one of the more important players in the current Celtic side. He has won four Premiership titles, three League Cups and two Scottish Cups with the club, a return that reflects both his consistency and Celtic’s domestic control during his spell. His current market value is around £7.5m, according to Transfermarkt.
In 2026-27, he has made two league appearances, along with one League Cup appearance, one in Champions League qualifying and three in the Europa League, giving him seven Celtic appearances across all competitions so far. His form this season has been solid overall, and his recent outings have been above his season average.
His career has moved from Tottenham prospect, through useful loan education, to an established Celtic centre-back with a strong honours record. He remains part of the present side, and still an important part of its defensive shape.
