Clément Lenglet, born on 17 June 1995 (age 31), is a French central defender now with Benfica, wearing squad number 2. His career took proper shape in Spain, where his 2017-18 season at Sevilla remains his most productive in league football: 35 appearances and three goals.
That Sevilla spell helped move him from promising defender into established first-team territory. Lenglet was not a flashy centre-half, but he offered enough composure, left-sided balance and penalty-box reliability to build a solid career at a high level.
At Benfica in 2026-27, he has made 15 appearances in all competitions and scored twice. That includes nine Liga Portugal appearances with one goal, five in Europa League qualifying with one goal, and one further Europa League outing. He has also made two Club World Cup appearances this season.
Lenglet’s career has been shaped by steady senior football rather than noise. From Sevilla to Benfica, he has remained a useful, experienced central defender with a record that points to durability as much as anything more glamorous.
