Dan Burn, born on 9 May 1992 (age 34), is an English left-sided defender with Newcastle United. At 6ft 7in (2.01m), he is an unusually imposing full-back, though his career has been built on more than being the tallest man in most rooms.
His early development came the hard way, through loan spells and lower-division football, where he had to learn the job rather than be handed one. That grounding helped shape a defender who has generally looked comfortable with responsibility, whether asked to play at left-back or tuck in as part of a back line.
Burn’s most productive league season came at Wigan Athletic in 2017-18, when he scored three goals in 26 appearances. It was the sort of spell that strengthened his standing as a reliable senior player rather than a project still waiting to happen.
Now wearing number 33 at Newcastle, he remains a regular first-team presence in 2025-26. He has made 29 Premier League appearances, scoring once, along with two FA Cup appearances and 11 in the Champions League, where he has also scored. Across all competitions for Newcastle this season, he has 42 appearances and two goals.
He has also been involved with England this season, making five appearances in European World Cup qualifying. His current market value is around £5m, according to Transfermarkt.
Burn’s career has been a steady climb from development loans to a regular role at Newcastle and involvement with England. It is a solid, durable profile, built without much fuss and still relevant at the top level.
