Born 31 August 1990, Gary Mackay-Steven hails from Scotland and has made a name for himself as a formidable forward, primarily taking on roles as a left winger in his current club, Kilmarnock. Standing at 5ft 8in (1.75m) and weighing 11st (70kg), Mackay-Steven is a force on the pitch where he wears the number 14 jersey.
Mackay-Steven's professional football journey began in January 2011 when he joined Airdrieonians in the Scottish Championship, making 19 team appearances in his debut season. By July of the same year, he transitioned to Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership, securing a total of 110 first team appearances and 21 goals over four seasons from 2011 to 2015.
February 2015 then marked a significant period in Mackay-Steven's career when he transferred to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership for a fee of around £250k. Throughout his time with the Celts, he participated in 46 team matches across three seasons, finding the back of the net on eight occasions. His time at Celtic is particularly notable, as the team wouldn't have been the same without his contributions, particularly in the 2015-2016 season where he proved instrumental in securing victories.
Mackay-Steven, however, bid farewell to Celtic in July 2017, moving to Aberdeen in the Premiership for a fee of £150k. There, he secured a total of 51 appearances and nine goals over two seasons before transferring to New York City FC in the MLS in USA. During his time stateside, he bagged a total of three goals over 34 matches, across the 2019 and 2020 seasons.
2021 saw the return of Mackay-Steven to Scottish soil in January, taking up the mantle at Hearts in the Premiership. He made 36 appearances through two campaigns while scoring twice. Unfortunately, details of his transfer in June 2023 appear to be unavailable, but it is known that in December 2023, Mackay-Steven found himself with Kilmarnock in the Premiership. Within his first two seasons, he marked ten appearances and one goal, while also contributing to the League Cup 2024 - 2025 with one start and making two substitute appearances in the 2024 - 2025 Conference League Qualifiers.
