Gianluca Scamacca, born on 1 January 1999 (age 27), is an Italian striker with Atalanta. A towering centre-forward at 6ft 5in (1.95m), he wears the number 9 shirt and is valued at around £30m by Transfermarkt.
His early career was shaped less by a straight climb than by a run of loans, the sort that tend to sort out young strikers quickly. A spell in the Netherlands with PEC Zwolle gave him senior football away from Italy, before loan moves such as Ascoli and Genoa offered a more direct route into the demands of Italian football. Those years did not make him overnight, but they gave him minutes, bumps and a clearer idea of his game.
Scamacca’s most productive league season came at Sassuolo in 2021-22, when he scored 16 goals in 36 appearances. That form took him on to West Ham United, before he returned to Serie A with Atalanta, where he is now established as a senior forward rather than a prospect being passed around for finishing school.
In 2026-27, he has made nine appearances and scored three goals for Atalanta across all competitions, including six Serie A appearances with one goal. He has also been involved with Italy this season, featuring in World Cup qualifying and the Nations League, where he has scored once.
Scamacca’s career has moved through loans, a breakthrough at Sassuolo, a spell in England and a return to Italy with Atalanta. He remains a physically imposing striker with a record that has come in stages rather than in one clean surge.
