Hyeon-gyu Oh, born on 12 April 2001 (age 25), is a South Korea striker whose first proper senior mark came with Suwon Samsung Bluewings. His best league campaign there was in 2022, when he scored 13 goals in 36 appearances, enough to put him on Celtic’s radar.
Celtic signed him from Suwon in January 2023 for around £2.5m. His time in Glasgow was not long, but it was productive enough in the usual Celtic way: he won the Premiership in 2022/23, two Scottish Cups and one League Cup. He was not the main man, but he had his part in a squad that kept collecting medals.
He left Celtic in July 2024, joining Genk for around £2.5m. After that, his path took in Genk and Besiktas, with Suwon remaining a significant part of his development rather than just a line from the start of the story.
At Besiktas, where he wears squad number 19, Oh remains a regular first-team presence in 2026/27. He has made 16 appearances across all competitions, scoring four goals: one in the Süper Lig, one in Europa League qualifying and two in the Europa League proper. His form has been solid overall, with his recent outings sitting above his season level.
He has also stayed involved with Korea Republic, making three World Cup appearances this season and scoring once, as well as nine appearances in Asian World Cup qualifying with four goals. His market value is around £6m, according to Transfermarkt.
Oh’s career has moved from Suwon to Celtic, then on through Genk and Besiktas, with regular club and international football keeping him firmly in the senior picture.
