Iago Aspas, born on 1 August 1987 (age 39), is a Spanish striker whose career has been shaped overwhelmingly by Celta Vigo. Wearing the number 10, he has been less a passing presence there than the constant around which much of the club’s modern attacking identity has been built.
His Celta record is substantial without needing much dressing up: 516 league appearances and 203 league goals across 17 seasons. His sharpest league campaign came in 2011-12, when he scored 22 goals in 35 appearances, the sort of return that tends to make a player central rather than merely useful.
In 2026-27, Aspas has made nine LaLiga appearances and scored one goal, with two more outings in the Europa League. Across all competitions for Celta Vigo this season, he has 11 appearances and one goal.
Aspas’s career is best understood through Celta Vigo: long service, consistent scoring, and a role that has lasted well beyond the usual shelf life for a forward. It is a career defined by one club, and by a level of production that has kept him relevant deep into his thirties.
