Jack Hendry, born in Glasgow on 7 May 1995 (age 31), is a commanding 6ft 4in (1.94m) Scotland centre-half now with Al-Ettifaq, where he wears the number 4 shirt. His senior career began to gather shape at Dundee, and it was from there that Celtic took him in January 2018 for around £1.5m.
The Celtic move looked logical enough: a Scottish defender with size, mobility and room to develop. It did not quite settle into the run many expected, and in July 2021 he left for Oostende for roughly the same £1.5m fee. That Belgian spell did more for his career rhythm, with the 2020-21 league season bringing 27 appearances and two goals, his most productive league campaign.
After Celtic, Hendry’s career became more continental than most Scottish centre-backs of his generation. Oostende gave him a platform, Club Brugge followed, and he later moved on to Al-Ettifaq. In 2026-27, he has made three Pro League appearances for Al-Ettifaq, scoring once.
He has also remained involved with Scotland this season, with three World Cup appearances and one appearance in European World Cup qualifying. Hendry’s career has not been a straight line, but it has taken him from Dundee to Celtic, through Belgium, and on to Saudi Arabia as an established international defender.
