John McGinn, born on 18 October 1994 (age 32), is a Scotland midfielder whose career has become firmly centred on Aston Villa. A left-footed central midfielder wearing number 7, he has been a durable and productive presence rather than a passing part of the squad.
Villa is where the shape of his career is clearest. Across nine seasons, McGinn has made 281 league appearances and scored 29 league goals, with his most productive league campaign coming in 2018–19, when he scored six times in 40 appearances. That is the sort of long service that tends to outlast most neat labels.
He remains relevant in 2026–27 rather than simply hanging around the place. This season he has made eight Premier League appearances with one goal, alongside outings in the FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup and Champions League, where he has also scored. Across all competitions for Aston Villa this season, he has 15 appearances and two goals.
McGinn has also continued to feature for Scotland, with appearances in World Cup, World Cup qualifying and Nations League fixtures this season, scoring in both World Cup and Nations League action. His current market value is around £13m, according to Transfermarkt.
His career is not hard to read: a Scotland international midfielder whose main body of work has been built at Aston Villa, where he remains part of the first-team picture in 2026–27.
