John Souttar, born on 25 September 1996 (age 29), is a Scotland centre-half whose senior career has taken in Hearts, Rangers and international football. His strongest league return came at Hearts in 2021-22, when he scored four goals in 27 appearances, a useful contribution from the middle of defence rather than the sort of thing to build a mythology around.
He later moved on to Rangers, where he has worn the number five shirt. In 2026-27 he has made one Scottish Cup appearance, with his Rangers total across all competitions standing at one appearance and no goals. His form this season has been solid, though he has been outside the matchday squad recently, with his last appearance coming in Falkirk 2-5 Rangers on 16 May 2026.
Souttar has also remained involved with Scotland, making five appearances in European World Cup qualifying this season. Away from Rangers, he has a League Cup win to his name.
His career is that of an established Scottish defender: productive at Hearts, part of the Rangers squad, and still used by Scotland at international level.
