John Souttar, born on 25 September 1996 (age 29), is a Scotland centre-back and a regular part of the Rangers first team. He wears the number 5 shirt and has remained a steady presence in their defence in 2025-26.
His most productive league season came at Hearts in 2021-22, when he scored four goals in 27 appearances. That campaign still stands out in his club career, not because centre-backs are usually judged by goals, but because it showed he could carry a threat as well as handle the routine work.
At Rangers, Souttar has won a League Cup and continued to feature heavily. In 2025-26 he has made 36 appearances across all competitions, including 24 in the league, six in Champions League qualifying, five in the Europa League and one in the Scottish Cup. He has not scored for the club this season.
He has also stayed involved with Scotland, making five European World Cup qualifying appearances in the same campaign. Souttarโs career has moved from prominence at Hearts to regular first-team football at Rangers, with his place in the national squad keeping him relevant beyond club level.
