José Cifuentes, born on 12 March 1999 (age 27), is an Ecuadorian centre-midfielder currently with Rangers, where he wears squad number 15. His market value is around £4.5m, according to Transfermarkt.
His early career in Ecuador included loan football that helped push him towards regular senior minutes, but the main substance of his career came after his move to Los Angeles FC. That spell gave him the platform he needed: four seasons, 102 league appearances and 14 league goals.
The 2022 season was his most productive in the league, with seven goals in 33 appearances for LAFC. It was the period that most clearly established him as a midfielder of range and purpose, rather than just another exported South American prospect with a neat highlights reel.
Cifuentes later moved into Scottish football with Rangers. His career to this point is best read through the LAFC years: developed in Ecuador, proven in Major League Soccer, and then brought to Ibrox as a first-team midfielder.
