Josip Šutalo, born on 28 February 2000 (age 26), is a Croatia international centre-half whose club career has come to be shaped mainly by Ajax. Before Amsterdam, his clearest season at Dinamo Zagreb came in 2022–23, when he scored two league goals in 27 appearances.
Ajax has given him the main body of his senior work. Across three seasons he has made 76 league appearances and scored three league goals, a steady enough return for a defender whose value is not meant to be measured in highlight reels. His market value is around £20.5m, according to Transfermarkt.
He has remained a regular first-team presence in 2025–26. For Ajax this season he has made 24 Eredivisie appearances, one in the KNVB Beker and six in the Champions League, taking him to 31 appearances in all competitions without a goal. He has also been involved for Croatia, making five appearances in European World Cup qualifying.
Šutalo’s career is still being written, but its current shape is plain enough: a Croatian defender developed through serious domestic football, now established at Ajax and still relevant in their first team.
