Lawrence Shankland, born on 10 August 1995 (age 30), is a Scotland striker now with Rangers. His career took shape away from the easy route, with early loan spells giving him the sort of senior football young forwards either use or disappear from. Shankland used it.
After his early years, he built his reputation through goals rather than polish. His most productive league season came at Hearts in 2022–23, when he scored 24 times in 37 appearances. That was the spell that moved him from useful Scottish Premiership striker to a forward opponents had to plan for properly.
He remains a regular first-team presence in 2025–26. For Rangers, he has made 29 league appearances and scored 16 league goals, with one goal in one Scottish Cup appearance. Across all competitions for the club, that leaves him on 17 goals from 30 games – a return that explains why he continues to matter in their side, however unhelpful that may be from this end of the city.
Shankland has also stayed involved with Scotland this season, making one World Cup appearance and two appearances in European World Cup qualifying, scoring once. His current market value is around £2.5m, according to Transfermarkt.
His career has been built steadily: loan football, a productive Hearts spell, international involvement, and a current role as a regular scorer for Rangers. It is a plain enough arc, but an effective one.
