Liam Donnelly, born 7th March 1996 and hailing from Northern Ireland, currently operates as a central defensive midfielder for St. Mirren, gracing the field in the number 44 jersey. In support of his positional responsibilities, he stands at around 5ft 11in (1.81m) and maintains a playing weight of 12st 6lb (79kg).
Donnelly began his career with Dungannon Swifts, a team in the Northern Irish Premiership, in July 2011. During his maiden season 2011 - 2012, he enjoyed seven appearances in the squad for league matches.
Seeing potential in this up and coming player, Fulham, a Premier League team in England, made moves to acquire Donnelly in July 2012. The specifics of the transfer fee remain undisclosed to this day. In the pursuit of competitive play and further development, Donnelly accepted a loan to Crawley Town, another English team but this time in League Two, in July 2015. He participated in ten league matches during the 2015 - 2016 season.
After his stint at Crawley Town, Donnelly changed teams again, transferring from Fulham to Hartlepool United in August 2016, a team plying their trade in England's National League. During his time with Hartlepool, he saw regular play, with 32 first team appearances in league matches in the 2016 - 2017 season and 22 appearances (alongside two goals) in the following 2017 - 2018 season.
In July 2018, Donnelly found opportunity in the Scottish Premiership, transferring to Motherwell for an undisclosed fee. Over the course of several seasons he made strides in his career, culminating in the 2019 - 2020 season where he scored seven goals over 22 first team appearances. His following seasons saw less pitch time; one appearance in 2020 - 2021, and 23 appearances in 2021 - 2022.
July 2022 saw another step in Donnelly's career path as he transferred from Motherwell to Kilmarnock, both teams being part of the Scottish Premiership. His goal scoring record during this period cooled, scoring twice in the 2022 - 2023 season and once in the 2024 - 2025 season. However, he remained a regular figure on the field, making between 22 and 27 first team appearances per season.
Most recently, in July 2025, Donnelly made another intra-Premiership transfer, this time joining the ranks of St Mirren. Donnelly will be playing for St. Mirren for the 2025 - 2026 season.
