Liel Abada was born in Petah Tikva, Israel, on 3 October 2001 (age 24). A compact right winger at 5ft 6in (1.68m), he came through at Maccabi Petah Tikva and had his most productive league season there in 2020-21, scoring 12 goals in 36 appearances.
Celtic moved for him in July 2021, paying around £3.5m to bring him from Maccabi Petah Tikva. It was a sizeable step for a young wide player, and Abada’s time in Glasgow formed the main stretch of his early European career before his departure in March 2024.
He left Celtic for Charlotte FC for around £6m, taking the number 11 shirt in MLS. His early Charlotte record stands at 10 appearances across MLS and the play-offs, without a goal.
Abada’s career so far has moved from a productive start in Israel, through a significant spell at Celtic, and on to Charlotte FC. He remains an established professional rather than a finished article, with the next part of his career still to be properly shaped.
