Luke McCowan, born on 9 December 1997 (age 28), is a Scottish central attacking midfielder for Celtic. His career is still best understood through his Dundee spell, where he became a reliable and productive player over four seasons rather than a passing name on the team-sheet.
At Dundee, McCowan made 99 league appearances and scored 23 league goals. His strongest campaign came in 2023-24, when he scored 10 times in 37 league matches, the sort of return that made his next move fairly easy to explain.
Celtic signed him from Dundee in August 2024 for around £1m. He was not arriving as a marquee act, which is no insult, but as a player with Premiership miles in his legs and enough end product to be useful. He was part of the Celtic squad that won the Premiership in 2024-25.
In 2025-26, McCowan has remained a regular first-team presence. He has made 29 league appearances with one goal, along with appearances in the League Cup, Scottish Cup, Champions League qualifying and Europa League. Across all competitions for Celtic this season, he has played 41 times and scored four goals, with his form solid and consistent.
His current market value is around £1.5m, according to Transfermarkt. McCowan’s career has been shaped most clearly by Dundee, but he is now part of Celtic’s current squad picture and continues to get regular minutes.
