Omonia Nicosia are an established Cypriot club, founded in 1948 and based at the GSP Stadium. Their current season has them third in the First Division, with a 31-man squad carrying an average age of 27 – experienced enough to be settled, large enough to manage domestic and European demands.
Their 2026-27 campaign has also included European football, moving through Champions League qualifying in the second qualifying round, Europa League qualifying at the play-off stage, and into the Europa League league phase. That gives them a sharper edge than a purely domestic opponent, particularly for any Celtic audience measuring them against continental standards.
Recent league form has been mixed but broadly competitive. Omonia beat AEL Limassol 2-0 after losing 2-0 at AEK Larnaca, with a 2-2 draw against Olympiakos Nicosia and a 3-0 win at Karmiotissa also in the run. A 4-1 win over Krasava ENY Ypsonas showed their capacity to punish weaker opposition, while a 0-0 with Apollon Limassol suggested a more contained side when the game tightens.
Loïs Diony is their clear scoring reference with eight goals, ahead of Muamer Tanković on three. Panagiotis Andreou, Luuk Brouwers and Senou Coulibaly have each added two, giving Omonia a spread of contributors without disguising where the main threat sits.
Omonia’s current standing is straightforward: third in Cyprus, European-tested this season, and built around a mature squad with a clear lead scorer. For Celtic supporters, they are a credible opponent rather than a curiosity.
