Ryan McGowan, an Australian born on the 15th of August 1989, currently defends for Livingston, primarily as a central defender. Standing at 6ft 3in (1.91m) tall and weighing 11st 11lb (75kg), he holds the number 5 jersey. McGowan's football journey began in earnest in January 2008 when he joined Hearts in Scotland's Premiership, making one first team appearance in his debut season. Over the next five years, he would go on to make 57 first team appearances for the club, scoring two goals in the process.
From October 2009 to June 2010, McGowan was on loan with Ayr United, and again on loan with Partick Thistle from February to March 2011. A return to Hearts saw McGowan back in the first team, but his second stint at the club would end in January 2013.

Returning to Scotland in January 2015, McGowan wore the colours of Dundee United for just over a year, tallied 34 appearances, and found the back of the net once. His journey continued back in China with Henan and subsequently, both Guizhou and UAE's Sharjah, before landing in England in 2018 with Bradford City.
A loan spell beckoned at Dundee in the 2018/2019 season before he set foot Down Under with Sydney FC. After Horne soil seasons and a stint in Kuwait, McGowan returned to Scotland in 2022, joining St Johnstone. Over two seasons he clocked up 57 appearances and netted twice.
His most recent move, in 2024, has seen him join Livingston. In his second season with the team, with almost forty appearances and participation in the League Cup, Scottish Cup, and Prem. Play-offs, McGowan continues to bolster the Livingston defence.
