Born on a comically blustery Scottish day in May of 2001, Ryan Mullen is a native laddie who evolved into quite the master of the goal posts. Currently guarding the net at St. Mirren like a pitbull on a meat-shop, our man Mullen stands a formidable 6ft 2in (1.88m), no doubt making the penalty box feel like a minuscule torment pit for the opposing strikers. Should you try and sneak a goal past him, mind you'll probably be met by a rather hefty 12st 8lb (80kg) slab of Scottish grit. Not to forget, this is all housed within the aura of the no-nonsense number 31 jersey.

Rather amusingly, given his current prowess, Mullen was part and parcel of the Celtic brigades not too long ago. He was sent to Cove Rangers on a loan spell during a moody September 2020, gracing the less-than-premier terrains of Scotland's League One. However, with typical Celtic predictability, they had him back once the loan stint had run its course in late October 2020.

As if experimenting with the Scot's fortitude, Celtic then loaned him out again in March 2021 – this time to Queen's Park in the Championship. However, by June 2021, Mullen found himself back at the hallowed grounds of the Celtic Park.

His fate yet unchanged, September 2022 saw Mullen make the shift to Clyde in League Two. Yes, you guessed it - another loan spell. This time, however, there was a silver lining. Mullen managed three whole appearances for Clyde during the 2022 - 2023 season – nothing to write home about, but it's the small things, isn't it?

July 2023, and we find Mullen on the move again – now to Greenock Morton in the Championship. This transfer seemed a tad more favourable. During the 2023 - 2024 season, Mullen enjoyed 23 appearances in league matches, a number which grew to 24 the following year.

Eventually seeing some sense in 2025, Mullen bid the often comic journey of loan spells goodbye and shifted his talents to the Premiership, joining St Mirren. Here, as of now, Mullen stands between the sticks, he even played one match in the 2025-2026 League Cup. What happens next will surely add to the chapters of this starkly common tale of a modern-day footballer. Here's hoping there is a bit more permanence and a wee bit glory in the next part of his journey.
