Seán Maguire, born on 1 May 1994 (age 32), is a Republic of Ireland striker with Cork City. His senior career began in Ireland with Waterford United before West Ham United took him to England as a young forward with a bit of promise and plenty still to prove.
West Ham did not become a first-team platform for him. The more useful work came on loan, with spells at Sligo Rovers, Accrington Stanley and Dundalk giving him the senior minutes he was not getting in London. Those moves mattered: they hardened up a player whose career was never going to be built on academy reputation alone.
Cork City gave Maguire his sharpest spell. In 2017 he produced his best league season, scoring 20 goals in 21 appearances, a return that made the next move inevitable enough. Preston North End took him back to England, where he spent several years in the Championship and became a regular part of their front line rather than a passing punt.
Later spells with Coventry City and Carlisle United followed before his return to Cork City. His career has been a practical one: early development through loans, a standout scoring run in Ireland, a substantial stretch in England, and a second spell at Cork as an experienced striker.
