Ferencvaros are one of Hungary’s established names, founded in 1899 and based at the Groupama Aréna. For Celtic supporters, they sit in that familiar European bracket: not from one of the richest leagues, but experienced enough to make careless assumptions look expensive.
Their 2026-27 season is still in progress, with Ferencvaros currently sixth in Nemzeti Bajnokság I. They have also come through Europa League qualifying play-off involvement into the Europa League league phase, giving their campaign a broader edge than domestic form alone suggests.
The squad is valued at around £29.5m by Transfermarkt, with 38 players and an average age of 27. Kristoffer Zachariassen has been their main scorer with six goals, while Marius Corbu, Lenny Joseph and Bamidele Yusuf have each contributed four.
Their recent league form has settled into draws after a run of wins: 1-1 against Debreceni, 1-1 away to Nyiregyhaza Spartacus, and 2-2 against Ujpest followed victories over ETO Gyori, Puskas Akademia and Zalaegerszegi. They have carried more threat away from home, averaging 1.8 goals scored on the road compared with one at home, and have struck first inside 20 minutes in six of 18 league matches.
Ferencvaros are a seasoned European opponent with a sizeable, mature squad and credible away scoring numbers. Their domestic position is modest for now, but they remain a relevant and awkward reference point for Celtic supporters assessing the level just beneath Europe’s elite.
