Grant Hanley

As a central defender for Hibernian in the 2026-27 Premiership Hanley has made 6 appearances (4 starts, 2 as substitute), scored 0 goals and collected 1 yellow card; he has also featured once in Conference League Qualifiers – those numbers indicate a squad defensive role with regular matchday involvement rather than an automatic first-choice starter.

Hanley has a season average rating of 6.95 with a highest match rating of 7.97 and a lowest of 6.14 – the narrow rating range points to consistent performances across his appearances this campaign rather than marked volatility.

Hanley's career passed through five senior clubs after joining Blackburn Rovers as a trainee in July 2008; he moved to Newcastle United in July 2016 for €6,000,000, transferred to Norwich City in August 2017 for €3,500,000 and later completed free transfers to Birmingham City in January 2025 and to Hibernian in August 2025 – the trajectory shows earlier paid moves at higher investment followed by free transfers in the later stage of his career.

Hanley moved to Hibernian on a free transfer in August 2025 after joining Birmingham City on a free transfer in January 2025; previous paid moves include a €3,500,000 transfer from Newcastle United to Norwich City in August 2017 and a €6,000,000 transfer from Blackburn Rovers to Newcastle United in July 2016, having joined Blackburn as a trainee in July 2008 – the transfer record reflects a step-up with fees earlier on and free moves more recently.
