Joe Newell, born on 15 March 1993 (age 33), is an English central midfielder with Hibernian, where he wears the number 11 shirt. A steady, left-sided midfield presence, he has built a career more on use of the ball and reliability than on noise.
His most productive league season came at Rotherham United in 2015–16, when he scored five goals in 35 appearances. That remains the clearest scoring peak in a career otherwise shaped around midfield work rather than headline numbers.
At Hibernian, Newell has become an important first-team player without needing much decoration. In 2025–26, he has made 14 league appearances and scored one league goal.
Newell’s career has taken him from English football into a settled role at Hibs, with his best attacking return coming at Rotherham and his later years defined by regular Premiership football in Edinburgh.
