Ah, Rangers, the phoenix that rose from the ashes in 2012, taking up residence in the splendid fortress of Ibrox. Their relatively youthful squad – the average age hovering around the quarter-century mark - have graced the monument of Scottish football with mixed fortunes.
With a total market value clocking in at approximately £91 million (a figure courteously provided by our friends over at Transfermarkt), their economic mightiness, one might argue, is not to be trifled with. Though some may question whether the figure is a little inflated, not that we'd ever make such a slanderous insinuation, of course.
Their band of 26 players, presumably being kept in peak physical condition by an army of physiotherapists, dietitians, and who knows what else, have burning ambition at heart. This season, their grit has led them to partake in five competitions. An admirable degree of enthusiasm, although whether this dispersal of energy yields any fruitful outcomes, remains to be seen.
Indeed, the Premiership saw them nobly fight their way to third place. The League Cup led them as far as the Semi-Finals and the Scottish Cup to the Fifth Round. The European competition, evidently, didn't daunt them either, reaching the League Phase in the Europa League and the Play-Offs in the Champions League Qualifiers. Grand exploits, one must concede. Perhaps next year they might even bring home some silverware, who knows?
